Town Hall Meeting 8.10.09
During the town hall meeting held on August 10, 2009, the Flood Project Coordinating Committee Board members and staff updated the community on recent legislation, elements of the project, project schedule, job opportunities, and the plan to implement a new rate structure to help pay for the project. A brief presentation on the most current project updates was followed by a question and answer session with the attendees.

Question 1: If we don't have a local source of funding, do we lose our partner (Corps)?
Question 2: Will it be possible to raise the funds with a flood control tax without a vote of the people?
Question 3: It seems like most money has been spent on "river beautification," how are we going to control a flood in downtown Reno and the industrial area of Sparks?
Question 4: What are the regulations on releasing water from Lake Tahoe into the Truckee River during a flood?
Question 5: Why should those above the flood plain pay the new "flood fee" without seeing any benefits? Where can one find the analysis/report on the creation of jobs from the Flood Project?
Question 6: Will the Reno Sparks Indian Colony levee/floodwall have a short term negative impact on the downstream Sparks industrial area if a flood occurs in the next few years?
Question 7: Has there already been a foot and a half of flood mitigation in the area east of McCarran?
Question 8: How is the Southeast Connector planning interfacing with the Flood Project Committee?
Question 9: Who is going to help pay for the flood mitigation in the Geiger Grade/Toll Road area if a GID is formed?
Question 10: What is the status of the EIS (Environmental Impact Statement)? When does the money kick in from the Army Corps of Engineers?
Question 11: What is the status on the flood protection plan in Hidden Valley?
Question 12: What would be the fee or rate structure?
Question 13: Do you have a formal way of communicating with the people that will be affected by this plan (e-mail list, Hidden Valley stakeholders)?
Question 14: What happened to the "buyout" option in Hidden Valley?
Question 15: What effects will the North Truckee Drain realignment have? Will the people from the City of Sparks be exempt from an additional fee?
Question 16: How soon will projects start in Hidden Valley? Will you start on the houses at the lowest elevations? How would you know if you are qualified for a buyout?
Question 17: Have you talked to all the property owners about mitigation and taking of property downstream? Will this happen before any TRAction projects?
Question 18: Will you consider easement on the Pyramid Lake Indian reservation due to adverse effects downstream?
Question 19: What is the plan concerning boat launches, river access, and parking through the city of Reno and Sparks?
